(Cambridge, MA) – On November 25, 2008, the Obama-Biden Transition team announced the selection of Dr. John H. Jackson, President and CEO of The Schott Foundation for Public Education, to serve on the President-Elect’s 13-member Education Policy Transition Work Group.
The Work Group is part of the Presidential Transition Project. The focus of the Policy Working Groups will be to develop the priority policy proposals and plans from the Obama Campaign for action during the Obama-Biden Administration.

Cambridge, MA, Sept. 11, 2008 – The Schott Foundation Board of Directors and Staff wish to congratulate Dr. Valora Washington, President of the CAYL Institute, for being named to Barr Fellows class of 2009 by the Barr Foundation. Cambridge, MA, August 24, 2008 – The Schott Foundation for Public Education board of directors has elected Rinku Sen as Vice Chair. A member of The Schott Foundation’s board of directors since 2004, Ms. Sen recently led the hiring committee for Schott’s president and CEO, Dr. John H. Jackson. She is also the author of “A Positive Future for Black Boys: Building the Movement,” a report published in December 2006 by The Schott Foundation.
New York, NY, August 2008 – During the turbulent years of the civil rights movement, Harry Wachtel, a close advisor to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. founded the Drum Major Foundation to support the work of Dr. King and other civil rights activists. In the years prior to his assassination, Dr. King informally referred to the foundation as his think tank. Forty years later, the Drum Major Institute for Public Policy (DMI) exists today to support social and economic justice, fulfilling the same mission as it did during the civil rights movement.
