The Schott Foundation Welcomes New Program Coordinator

Cambridge, MA, Sept. 10, 2008 – The Schott Foundation for Public Education welcomes Nakisha M. Lewis to the staff as the new Program Coordinator.

Ms. Lewis joins The Schott Foundation for Public Education from the Family Planning Council in Philadelphia, PA where she most recently served as Coordinator of Adolescent Programs and a member of the School District of Philadelphia’s Sexuality and Health Materials Review Committee. In her position at the Council, she oversaw a number of community-based reproductive health education programs including Man2Man and the Teen Peer Education program.

While in Philadelphia, Ms. Lewis devoted several years to working with and on behalf of underserved public middle and high school students. She worked as a classroom assistant, a summer school teacher, an after-school program coordinator and was a member of Philadelphia’s College-Prep Roundtable.

She attended Drexel University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Anthropology. She is a native of Boston, MA and an alumna of the Newton METCO program. Ms. Lewis continues to find new ways to facilitate positive change as an active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and the Kappa Sigma Alumnae Association.

As Program Coordinator, Ms. Lewis will assist in implementing The Schott Foundation’s mission to ensure resource equity and representative leadership in public education through public policy reform, public will building, and representative leadership development. She will support program staff in Schott’s Massachusetts and New York offices.
