“We are the leaders we have been waiting for”: 2021 Lessons from the Movement
We asked eight education justice leaders what they’ve learned during 2021.
Against a backdrop of an ongoing pandemic and political attacks on public education, our grassroots grantee partners have achieved major education justice victories – supported by funders like Schott investing for the long term in community organizing.
As a philanthropic intermediary, we at Schott continued to build bridges between philanthropy and the vibrant parent, youth, and community organizing that need continued and generous support.
In addition to hundreds of hours of technical and strategic support, in 2021 we granted almost two million dollars to groups across the country. Many of these groups are invisible to philanthropy as they work deep within their communities; Schott is connected to these leaders through our work and networks.
Any seasoned organizer will tell you: never skip the debrief. We reached out to our colleagues and grantees to hear the lessons they’ve learned from the past year of movement work.
All Together Now: Invest in the Leaders Who Fight for Education Justice
Through the challenges and victories of the past year, the education justice movement is moving into 2022 with the vision, strategy and momentum to make this next year a historic one. Donating to Schott means your dollars will be used to directly support community leaders across the country working for racial justice in education. But victory is never guaranteed. Donate today to give grassroots organizers the resources they need to win.
