National Black Caucus of State Legislators Publishes Schott Article on Girls’ Equity Grant Program

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Schott Foundation for Public Education is pleased to announce its Girls’ Equity Grant Program was recently featured in the December 2012 issue of The Legislator, a publication of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators. The article was written by Dr. John Jackson, Schott’s President and CEO, and Nakisha Lewis, Schott’s Program Manager heading up the girls’ equity grant program.

In the article, Dr. Jackson and Ms. Lewis discuss the emerging campaign to build a movement around girls’ equity issues. As they explain, young women of color face unique challenges in the classroom, challenges that are often overlooked in an education reform environment that focuses so much on young men of color. Schott’s girls’ equity grant program is funding research and grassroots organizations to better define the issues young women face and to elevate the voices of young women who are at the center of these issues.
