How Can Philanthropy Play a Role in Combating Efforts to Thwart Racial and Social Justice?

Austin, TX

1:45 PM – 3:00 PM CT

A Session at Grantmakers for Education’s 2022 Conference

Attacks are being launched across the country on school curriculum that advances a full portrayal of our nation’s history and the life of our schools. This is a well-organized backlash intended to thwart recent advances in racial and social justice. Using the H.E.A.L. Together initiative led by Race Forward to confront the so-called anti-CRT mandates, as well as GSA Network’s Devising Freedom Campaign to combat legislation and mandates that target trans and nonbinary students, we will examine what this means for education funders.

Speakers include:

  • Ginna Brelsford, GSA Network
  • Kent McGuire, Hewlett Foundation
  • Letha Muhammad, Education Justice Alliance
  • Zoe Stemm-Calderon, Raikes Family Foundation
  • Diallo Brooks, Schott Foundation for Public Education (Moderator)
