The Schott Foundation for Public Education seeks to develop and strengthen a broad-based and representative movement to achieve fully-resourced, high quality pre-kindergarten to grade 12 public education.

Message from the President/CEOThe passage of New York's state budget this month represents an enormous victory for all New York public school children, their parents, teachers and many others. Year two of the historic Campaign for Fiscal Equity settlement led to the $1.5 billion increase in public school funding. This is the culmination of years of hard work led by organizers such as the Alliance for Quality Education, Campaign for Fiscal Equity, and many others. These organizations and the  parents, youth, and other community stakeholders involved are to be applauded for their determination, dedication, and perseverance. Years of strategizing, motivating, and organizing thousands of New York citizens have led to this year's fulfillment of a four-year pledge of $7 billion in new money going to New York's most underserved school children. The concerted effort and battles fought along the way can serve as a blueprint to help citizens of other states and municipalities accomplish fiscal and educational resource equity for their children. All children deserve access to high quality education.

Washington, DC - The Pew Charitable Trust releases annual report on the status of state-funded pre-schools in the US.

The 2007 State Preschool Yearbook is the fifth in a series of annual reports profiling state-funded pre-kindergarten programs in the United States. This latest Yearbook presents data on state-funded pre-kindergarten during the 2006-2007 school year. The first report in this series focused on programs for the 2001-2002 school year and established a baseline to more easily measure progress over the past six years. Tracking these trends is essential, since changes in states' policies on preschool education will influence how successfully America's next generation will compete in the knowledge economy.

Washington, DC - The National Coalition for Women and Girls in Education publishes Title IX at 35: Beyond the Headlines.

Thirty-five years after the passage of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, the stunning progress brought by this landmark civil rights legislation is evident in women’s unprecedented achievements in many areas, including business,
the professions, academics, sports and public leadership. And yet, much remains to be done. Evidence suggests that girls and women continue to suffer discrimination in many educational activities, although it is usually in a more subtle form than it was before Title IX was enacted.
