Melissa joined the Schott Foundation for Public Education team in January of 2016. As the Development Associate, Melissa’s role is to support efforts to identify and secure funding and other support for major initiatives developed by the Foundation, including identifying potential public and private funding sources for each initiative, designing outreach strategies to build relationships with funders and preparing funding proposals and other marketing materials for presentation.
Prior to joining the team at the Schott Foundation, Melissa was the Executive Director of Youth Rights Media, a New Haven-Connecticut based nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth to become leaders in their communities, evolving and overseeing a program mixing hands-on media education with civic engagement.
Melissa has also served with the AmeriCorps Public Allies Connecticut program as the Academic Enrichment Coordinator for Common Ground High School, was a Program Associate and Communications Coordinator at Public Allies Connecticut, a facilitator for the University of Connecticut’s GEAR UP program and girls’ group facilitator at Riverside Academy in New Haven.
A 2006 graduate of Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York, Melissa holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies with a concentration in Film and Broadcast.
