Heidi Brooks

Chief Operating Officer

Heidi Brooks is the Chief Operating Officer of the Schott Foundation for Public Education, a Cambridge-based national foundation dedicated to developing and strengthening a broad-based and representative movement to achieve fully resourced, quality PreK-12 public education. Brooks has nearly eight years of corporate philanthropy experience, most recently as Senior Vice President and Director of Charitable Giving at Citizens Financial Group. While at Citizens, she led a rebranding of the foundation’s giving areas, narrowing them from nine to four, launched a single, centralized online employee giving campaign called Citizens Helping Citizens that generated nearly $1 million in nonprofit donations, enhanced the employee volunteerism program to more than double volunteer hours, and worked with the CEO-led board to set strategy and direction for Citizens' community outreach efforts throughout Citizens' 12-state territory.

Prior to joining Citizens, Brooks was Director of Community Relations at John Hancock Financial Services, where she represented the company in the community, managed her department's finances and oversaw $11 million in cash and in-kind giving annually. Brooks also developed and managed the MLK Summer Scholars program, Hancock’s collaboration with The Boston Globe and Boston University that provided a record 650 summer jobs and programming to Boston teens.

Before business school, Brooks worked in 15 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America managing, designing, and auditing programs for the World Bank and several NGOs. Brooks holds a B.A. from the University of South Carolina, an M.A. from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. She has been active with a number of nonprofits and foundations, and her current leadership roles include chairing the board of Crittenton Women’s Union, an organization that works with women and their families to achieve economic independence,  and co-chairing the Membership Committee of Associated Grantmakers, a regional association of philanthropy organizations.
