Are you Internet savvy, a social media guru and looking for a part-time position where you can really make a difference? Where you can apply as well as expand your skills while working with a team that’s improving public education for disadvantaged students? Where you can create resume-building Internet projects that will effect progressive change?

The Schott Foundation for Public Education is playing a leadership role in building a national movement to ensure that all children have a fair opportunity to learn. The position we are seeking will play a substantive, entrepreneurial role in this ambitious effort to change the frame of the nation’s public education debate to bring equitable educational resources to low-income children and children of color. The intern's primary focus will be creative use of social media and developing tools for web and email dissemination that can exponentially grow the number of organizations and partners involved in the Opportunity To Learn Campaign.

The Web Communications & Social Media Intern will report to the Multimedia Communications Manager and be engaged in planning meetings with the OTL Campaign team. A minimum commitment of 12 hours per week is required, though there is flexibility to work on projects in the office or offsite.

Web Communications & Social Media Intern Responsibilities:

  • Implement creative, viral online techniques to gain increased traction for the OTL Campaign
  • Research to identify relevant blogs, websites and other social media outlets
  • Track and analyze statistics and activity for the OTL Campaign’s social media outlets -- Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. 
  • Draft reports of social media trends and statistics. 
  • Post tweets or Facebook status updates daily while engaging in conversations and relationships with our social media allies
  • Maintain Twitter followers and Facebook fans. 
  • Perform edits to the OTL campaign’s website www.otlcampaign.org

Qualifications:

  • Current student or recent graduate at a college or university in the Boston area.
  • Strong computer skills, at least HTML, and familarity with Windows.
  • Experience with and creative ideas for use of social media, especially Twitter and Facebook.
  • Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • A self-starter, able to flourish in an environment that is highly transparent and collaborative.

Extra Awesome:

  • A demonstrated commitment to social change, familiarity/experience with activism and organizing
  • YouTube video editing and uploading abilities
  • Experience creating/ editing websites using Drupal and Wordpress
  • Skill with design programs (Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Experience with Mac OS X

Salary: $12/hour.
